‘Underwater City’ is a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with a myriad of marine life at King George Square in the heart of the Brisbane CBD. This project was to produce a promotional billboard which will quickly excite and engage with the target audience of children from 8 to 15 years of age.
The design process for the ‘Underwater City’ billboard had two parts. A custom typographic wordmark for the brand which could be adapted to suit other capital cities, as well as the realistic photomontage composition that would allow viewers to experience Brisbane underwater.
The photographic constraints of the brief required the use of at least three Brisbane landmarks and having them submerged underwater. All the collateral imagery was photographed underwater whilst SCUBA diving.
Over forty images were integrated into the composition to create a surreal fantasyexperience where Brisbane has been devastated by rising sea waters and sea creatures now have the former city as their domain.
